For years, a fifty-year-old Palestinian has been helping stray dogs in Gaza by collecting them in his shelter, but also at home. Saeed al-Err also saves dozens of cats and horses in distress.

Saeed al-Err, 50, is the father of 8 children, but he sees them more and more rarely.

This Gaza resident spends most of his days rescuing stray dogs and those he cares for at his shelter, reports The Guardian.

Its shelter, called Sulala Animal Rescue, is the first in Gaza, and the only one for the moment.

It’s home to more than 350 dogs, but at another site, a house he rents, Saeed al-Err takes care of 40 cats.

At home, he welcomes about thirty others. Hundreds of animals, including donkeys and horses, have been saved by this man, his family, and his teams of employees and volunteers.

If he loves them all without exception, a special bond unites him to Minwer, a cat who is always the first to welcome him when he returns home after his long and exhausting days.

„If I get under the blanket to stay warm, he will pat my hand to lift it so he can join me,“ said Saeed al-Err. I dream that one day all animals will find a safe space like Minwer”.

He explains that he has always helped animals, but that he decided to step up a gear when the municipality announced on social networks that it would pay nearly 3 euros for each stray dog killed.

Shocked, he responded to these publications, then the next morning, he went to the town hall to show him that his approach was wrong.

The authorities heard him and finally gave up their campaign, after removing the posts in question.
