Florida fishermen help injured hammerhead shark to give birth on the beach

Noe Campos, a catch-and-release fisherman, was fishing sharks in the Gulf of Mexico with his pals when they had a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

What the men thought would be a moment of celebration after catching the world’s largest fish turned into a life-saving rescue.

The fisherman from Venice, Florida, instantly realised the 12-foot hammerhead shark they had caught was gravely damaged and raced to assist her, only to discover she was pregnant and about to give birth.

So they changed from fisherman to doctors and dove into the ocean to assist the shark in giving birth to her babies.

It took nearly two hours of hard work, but over 20 puppies were delivered safely in the end. „I stood in the water for a few seconds to make sure they swam away safely,“ Campos explained.

„I had them in my arms and as soon as I let them go, voom! They flew away.“

The giant hammerhead shark, it turned out, had a severe bite on her belly as a consequence of a conflict with another shark, putting her babies in jeopardy.

The good fishermen, on the other hand, stepped in and saved them all. Unfortunately, the mother died as a result of her wounds, but at least all of her pups survived!
