This 70 years old woman cleaned up 52 beaches: it is really touching story

Positive Schwingungen

Pat Smith, a 70-year-old woman from the United Kingdom, is a shining example of someone who is dedicated to making a difference for future generations.

Despite her age, she is full of energy and has decided to spend 2021 cleaning up the beaches of her native country. In total, she tidied up 52 sites, one for each week of the year.

The driving force behind Pat’s actions is her concern for the future of her children and grandchildren.

„We are causing catastrophic damage to the oceans. I have to do something about it,“ she says.

In 2020, Pat co-founded Last Straw Cornwall, a company dedicated to tackling pollution in the UK city of Cornwall.

The company has been able to attract ordinary entrepreneurs and enthusiasts, and as a result, a group of people has formed who work together to solve a problem.

Pat decided to become an example for others and started traveling around her homeland, cleaning the beaches.

She also started a blog where she talked about all the events and after learning of her desire to deal with the pollution, other people began to join her.

Every year, 85 tonnes of plastic are thrown away in the UK alone.

Last Straw Cornwall has become one of many companies tackling this problem. It is important to note that plastic straws take about 200 years to decompose.

A large number of marine animals die each year due to plastic waste.

We can all make a difference, and it is never too late to start.
